Google search algorithm may be a farce

Google uses a formula known as an Algorithm that governs how search results are selected and the order in which they are displayed. For some time now, businesses dependent on search results for their sales have been complaining about a drop in their page position and sales, and users dependent on the same search results for their research have been complaining about the tediousness of wading through close proximity rubbish.

Everyone is now questioning the madness behind the algorithm and Google has been asked to explain how it really works, to which we have been getting the same reply about how complex it is and that it includes about 500 variables to ensure quality of search results. But the algorithm has still not been disclosed. In the meantime a lot of experts in the SEO industry (Search Engine Optimization) have been speculating about how that formula works based on the vague hints given by Google.

But the explanation that those SEO experts have suggested has been reviewed by a more experienced team of web developers who fear that some of those factors would require an impossible amount of complexity to be reliable. Each of those factors in doubt are discussed in the following articles:

- Age and/or history of the web site
- Rank of the keywords being used
- Name of the page and closeness to the target keyword
- Number of letters in the page title
- Number of letters used in the meta description
- Number of keywords used in the meta tags
- Repetition of keywords appearing in the page body
- Size of the page download
- Size of the JavaScript on the page
- Quality of the images used on the page
- Use of the image alt tags
- Content designed to cheat search engines

So what else do you expect. Everyone with a web site will be vying for page one results and will be cheating and cheating and cheating. By the time Google has finished weeding out the cheats the results of course will be totally screwed.

It is very typical and all one can expect when money is involved. I doubt if the other search engines have the same problem because their service is mostly bait free and therefore greed free.

Google ad revenue this year may be about 28 billion dollars, so I cant see them wanting to change anything. If anything they will get worse as they try to screw more out of everyone.
